Success - cont. (leadership is about teaching)
"There are two kinds of teachers: the kind that fill you with so much quail shot that you can't move, and the kind that just gives you a little prod behind and you jump to the skies.” ― Robert Frost

America - Not too bad
I keep hearing all these politicians talk about making America great again. My question is how do we measure greatness? I think it is a pretty great time to be an American. I definitely have it as good as my parents and better than either sets of grandparents. I dang sure would not want to have lived in the 19th century. Early 20th century would have been ok but then came the depression, dust and war. 60's nah, 70's definitely no. Since then, maybe. Now? Not bad at all. Could be better but not bad at all.

Success - continued
Continuing my thoughts on Success from my post last month.
Success is about surrounding yourself with people with similar vision, goals and ambitions. I came across the diagram below that defines for me the "people" I want to be successful with.

Snow Day
Today is my 57th birthday. In honor of my birthday the federal government has declared it a national holiday and shut down all post offices, banks, etc. (Not really, its Presidents Day)
We have the first significant snow since we moved into our new house in Rogerville.
At about 7:15 out walked 3 of the community deer brood and for the first time, their boyfriend. He is a nice young 6 point. Pretty deer in the snow.
I am blessed and God is good.

Success - part 1
People, especially business people and entrepreneurs, love
to talk about success. That includes
me. I have decided to try and write
down, codify if you will, my definition of success. I want the definition to be broader than
just success in business. I want my
definition to be one of success as it
applies to one’s life.
Dan Sullivan of Strategic Coach fame has begun a video
series about the concept of Multipliers.
You can watch the first video in the series here. I also just read a book on this subject but more
about that in a future post. From the
first video on Dan’s series you begin to see his definition of a successful person. Here are a few of the characterizes I listed
after watching:
- · Set’s goals and establishes strategy to achieve those goals
- · Not a crazy risk taker but still a risk taker
- · Has the concept of the future being bigger and better than the present
- · Responsive and resourceful
- · Organized and focused
My definition has always included things like:
- · Finish the year better off (including financially) than I started the year. (If not, I at least know why)
- · Meeting or exceeding my goals
I am just getting started on this project and will be
posting more in the future. In the meantime, why don’t you share some of your thoughts on the subject? Send me an email with your definition of
success to sperryman@abacuscpas.com
