Wrong Train

Another maxim for the list.   This one from Dietrich Bonhoeffer:

If you board the wrong train, it is no use running along the corridor in the other direction.

Happy Birthday Warren Buffett

Today is Warren Buffett's 88th birthday.   Here is my favorite quote of his:

“The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.”

Dead Fish Maxim

Saturday afternoon I was sitting in the truck waiting on the pizza we ordered to be ready for pickup.  While we waited, my wife was laughing and reading me puns from a funny pun website.

One of the puns was so profound that I have decided to add it to my list of Leadership/Life Maxims.

It is......

"Only dead fish go with the flow!"

Great book openings

From Jim Collin's book "Good to Great"
"Good is the enemy of Great"

From Ray Dalio's "Principles"
"Before I begin telling you what I think, I want to establish that I', a dumb shit who doesn't know much relative to what I need to know."

Choose your weapon

I have always considered myself a moderate. I am constantly irritated at the 20% on the right that label themselves conservative and the 20% on the left that label themselves liberal and my friends in the middle that are mostly silent (or just smart). However, we have reached the top and are headed down the slippery slope of the other side. This will require those of us in the middle to choose a side since the 20% position is that you are either with us or against us. A smart survivalist will join the conservative 20%. They are the ones with the guns and are willing to use them. And that is very sad.

Origin Story: A Big History of Everything by David Christian
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent history of our universe. I would consider this a must read for anyone interested in a contextual history of where we came from, where we are now and what the future looks like.
